Philosophy
For centuries the twin symbols of the Roman goddess Minerva, and the owl have represented wisdom, contemplation, and justice. The dialectic philosopher, G.W.F. Hegel once wrote “The owl of Minerva spreads its wings only with the falling of the dusk."
What he meant by this is that we come to understand the meaning of events in our lives and in history not by rushing ahead to the future, anxiously trying to predict or control it, but by slow and careful reflection on the past, grounded in the present moment.
At Minerva Mentorship and Consulting, you are invited to press pause on the busyness of the world, with its constant demands to move more quickly, and to keep up with passing trends and to step out of the anxious urgent way of being encouraged by our society and work cultures. We are bombarded daily with more information, more suffering, and more complexity than we can keep up with.
Here's how I approach things differently...
Approaches
-
Trauma Informed Practice: Cutting edge research into the neurobiology of human connection the impacts of traumatic stress and a scientific approach to addressing traumatic symptoms, reconnecting to resources, and building healthy relationships with self and others.
-
Relational Cultural Theory: A feminist and attachment informed psychological lens that places growth fostering relationship at the heart of human psycho-social wellbeing. This approach emphasises mutuality, dignity, healthy engagement with power, and striking a balance between autonomy and belonging.
-
Dialectic philosophy: A philosophical school that teaches us that growth, in the individual, and at the community level requires space for complexity, safe and generative conflict, and making room for paradox and diversity, rather than polarizing and rejecting what or who is different from us.
-
Existential philosophy: A philosophical tradition that invites us to wrestle with the tension of freedom and responsibility in the world and asks us to thoughtfully engage with our relationships to ourselves, others, and the world with inner consent.
-
Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy: A systems theory approach to developing conscious, consenting, and peaceful ways of relating to ourselves, and others that enhance our access to life energy, vitality, and peace.
In my work at Minerva Mentorship and Consulting, I believe that this pace and the pressure to polarize rapidly toward certainty is part of the problem, not the solution. In all of my services I offer: slow consideration-not soundbites, an emphasis on putting relationship first—not profit or productivity, space for the complexity of humanity—not over-simplification or polarization.
