Scath (Shelter/Shadow)
A Gaelic proverb tells us “Ar scáth a cheile a mhaireann na daoin” or “in the shelter of each other, the people live.”
Scath is a group for counsellors entering the sacred work of psychotherapy where we can gather and find shelter in one another and safety in sharing the shadows of sorrow that we encounter in our lives. In this group we make room to metabolize grief in our personal and professional lives, and foster hope in uncertain times.
Purpose
-
This is not a therapeutic group intended to fix people or solve problems… because you don’t need fixing, and grief isn’t a problem
-
This is a group that provides a space of welcome where a community of helpers can share in solidarity their experiences of sorrow and joy in their work and lives
-
This is a group where we make room for whatever needs to be heard and held in community, to experience being witnessed and supported, and to find support in the wisdom and beauty of story—our own and those of others (the poets, mystics, songwriters, etc.)
-
This group is based on the work of Francis Weller and his model of the 5 Gates of grief. It is grounded in the roots of depth psychology, existential philosophy, Feminism and Relational Cultural Theory
Structure:
-
The group will meet as requested (i.e. when a sufficient number of members express interest) once per month for an initial course of 6 months (with the option to continue if the group desires this)
-
3 hours per meeting, virtual and in person option available
Membership/Fees
-
This group is meant to provide space without undue financial burden. The fee is set at $75.00 per participant for the full 3- hour meeting.
-
This group will welcome a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 8 regular participants.
